U.S. News & World Report has recognized Edward Hospital in Naperville and Elmhurst Hospital in its inaugural list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals, part of Edward-Elmhurst Health (EEH), are among 237 of 2,700 hospitals in the United States considered high-performing in maternity care for 2021-22.
To determine its list, U.S. News used hospital data from 2019 involving uncomplicated pregnancies, not high-risk pregnancies, and considered five factors: scheduled early deliveries, C-section rates in low-risk women, newborn complications, rate of exclusive breast milk feeding and option for vaginal births after cesarean. U.S. News also took into account information about services and amenities, like private rooms, valet parking and availability of childbirthing classes.
In fiscal year 2021 (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021), Edward Hospital recorded 3,218 live births and Elmhurst Hospital recorded 2,719 live births. Both hospitals have been recognized for reducing the number of elective deliveries performed before 39 weeks of pregnancy by the March of Dimes, Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative and Illinois Hospital Association.
