For the third year in a row, IBM Watson Health™ named Edward-Elmhurst Health one of the nation’s 15 Top Health Systems.

Edward-Elmhurst Health is:

• The only health system in Illinois to make the 15 Top Health Systems list in 2021.
• One of five systems recognized in the Medium Health System category.

Edward Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital were also named to the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list. Elmhurst was ranked No. 1 and Edward was ranked No. 7 in the Large Community Hospitals category.

Edward Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital are:

• Two of five Illinois hospitals to make the 100 Top Hospitals list.
• Two of three Illinois hospitals in the Large Community Hospitals category.

The annual 15 Top Health Systems study spotlights the best-performing health systems in the U.S., based on a balanced scorecard of publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction data and metrics. This year’s study evaluated 324 health systems and 2,522 hospitals that are members of health systems before choosing the top 15.

According to Watson Health’s evaluation, the 15 Top Health Systems and 100 Top Hospitals:

• Had fewer people die in the hospital and had fewer patient health complications
• Had fewer people contract infections while they were hospitalized
• Had fewer people readmitted to the hospital in the 30 days after they were discharged
• Sent patients home sooner
• Provided faster emergency care
• Scored higher on patient ratings of their overall hospital experience
