When you’re dealing with a chronic disease or medical condition, exercise can have many health benefits. But what exercises are safe? How often can you exercise? And what precautions should you take?

Medical fitness can provide the answers you’re looking for — and put you on the path to living your healthiest life.

Edward-Elmhurst Health & Fitness Center created a Medical Fitness Program to support individuals navigating a chronic disease or other health issue with safe and effective exercise strategies created specifically for them and guided by degreed and nationally accredited fitness staff.

How does the program work?

The Medical Fitness Program makes your wellness a top priority. After a referral from your physician, you receive an individualized assessment and medically-based fitness plan to get you on your way to reducing your health risks and easing symptoms, or just moving more and feeling better.

Individualized exercise plans are centered around health management and prevention and include a diverse selection of evidence-based classes and programming led by certified and specially trained staff.

The Medical Fitness Program encompasses one or more of the following pathways:

  • Active aging
  • Bone and joint
  • Cancer
  • Cardiorespiratory
  • Diabetes
  • Falls prevention
  • Injury recovery
  • Mind-body
  • Neurological
  • Pre/post-nata
  • Pre/post-surgery
  • Weight management

Medical Fitness participants get full access to the Fitness Center facility in Woodridge, including a variety of free classes and exercise equipment, an indoor walking track, lap and therapy pools, and spa services.

Program participants say they feel welcome the minute they step through the door. There’s also camaraderie among participants, as they have a chance to meet others dealing with similar health challenges. Many participants feel the program has helped them get back to where they want to be physically.

Regardless of where you are in your health journey, Edward-Elmhurst Health & Fitness Center can help get you on the right path toward a healthy and full life.
