When you need care for yourself, you may consider a family medicine physician (treats patients of any age or life stage) or an internal medicine physician (specializes in the care of adults and teens, typically 16 years and older).
Some internists specialize in certain diseases, parts of the body or life stages, like diabetes management, sports medicine, and elderly care. Consider your health history, family history and known risk factors to find a doctor who is right for you.

When you need care for the whole family, a family medicine physician can be the most convenient and effective choice. Family medicine doctors are board-certified and have specific knowledge of the body at any age, from newborns to the elderly.
They can also treat a wide variety of conditions, including ailments for which you would normally see a specialist. Consider each doctor’s areas of focus to find the right match for your whole family.

When you’re looking for care for your child only, you may consider a family medicine physician (treats patients of all ages) or a pediatrician (focuses specifically on newborns, infants, children and teens).
Our pediatricians are board-certified and specialize in the overall health of your child, from preventive care for healthy kids to treatment when kids are ill or injured. Pediatricians are trained in childhood diseases, development and emotional well-being.

Many family medicine and internal medicine physicians perform annual well-woman visits. If you choose this option, it is best to verify with the physician office.
Some insurance plans allow you to select an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) as your primary care provider. OB/GYNs are experts in the female reproductive system and are trained to care for women during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as manage any disorders of the female reproductive system.
If you choose an OB/GYN to be your primary care provider, make sure to ask if they will serve that role. Some OB/GYNs prefer to have a family medicine or internal medicine physician provide care for issues not related to the reproductive system.
