See If Deep TMS Is Right for You

Why Deep TMS?

Deep TMS is an advanced treatment designed to help patients struggling with conditions like depression, depression with anxiety, OCD, and smoking addiction. Unlike traditional TMS, Deep TMS uses a specially designed helmet to reach deeper areas of the brain that are responsible for regulating mood and behavior. This means it can be more effective for patients who haven't seen results with medication or other therapies.

Deep TMS is safe, non-invasive, and backed by over 60 clinical trials worldwide. It has been FDA-approved to treat conditions like Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Smoking Addiction, and more. With Deep TMS, you can find a path toward better mental health without the severe side effects of other treatments.

Deep TMS Psychiatric Treatments

Deep TMS has been FDA-cleared to treat several psychiatric conditions, providing patients with a non-invasive and effective solution for:

  • Major Depression: Helps alleviate symptoms of depression in patients who have not responded to other treatments.
  • Depression with Anxiety: Targets both depressive and anxiety symptoms for those experiencing comorbid conditions.
  • Late-Life Depression: Treats depression in older adults, providing a safe alternative to traditional therapies.
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Reduces symptoms of OCD, offering relief for patients struggling with intrusive thoughts and behaviors.
  • Smoking Addiction: Aids in short-term smoking cessation for adults seeking to quit smoking.

Eligibility for Deep TMS Therapy

  • You are an Adult 18+ and/or adolescent 16-18 insurance dependent.
  • You have not experienced relief from depression, OCD, or smoking cessation through medication or psychotherapy.
  • You do not have metal implants in or around your head (dental fillings are okay).
  • You are not currently pregnant.
  • You are able to commit to a 4-8 week treatment schedule.

Deep TMS Treatment Process: What to Expect During Deep TMS Treatment

Deep TMS is only used for patients with major depressive disorder who have not seen results with previous treatments. In order to qualify for Deep TMS, patients must:

  • Be an Adult 18+ and/or adolescent 16-18 insurance dependent
  • Have previously tried 4 antidepressants in 2 classes and have received some form of structured psychotherapy
  • Currently have a psychiatrist (if you do not have a psychiatrist, our team can refer you to one)
  • Provide informed consent if pregnant
  • Be willing to stop alcohol consumption for the duration of the treatment
  • Not have any brain tumors or other severe neurological conditions (dementia, stroke, Parkinson's, etc...)
  • Not have any metal clips, plates, screws or implanted devices in the head or neck (excluding dental work)
  • Commit to a 4-8 week schedule of treatments taking place at Endeavor Health Center — Naperville Behavioral Health or Endeavor Health Evanston Hospital – Behavioral Health
  • Be comfortable participating in an evaluation (detailing possible changes in medication) by a psychiatrist

Treatment will take place over 4-8 weeks, which requires patients to come to Endeavor Health Center — Naperville Behavioral Health or Endeavor Health Evanston Hospital – Behavioral Health every weekday. The first session will take approximately 1 hour, and further sessions will be 30 minutes. After 4-8 weeks, sessions will taper off with a maximum of 36 treatments depending on each individual patient's condition and response to Deep TMS. Patients will schedule an allotted time, which will remain consistent throughout the process.

  • To begin, you will be seated in the Deep TMS chair and the helmet will be placed onto your head.
  • The machine will deliver short, 2 second pulses with approximately 20 second periods between them, targeting the brain with magnetic waves.
  • After treatment is done, you may resume regular activities.
  • There is no safety issue resuming driving after each treatment.
  • Some patients experience mild fatigue or headaches. Pain can be managed with OTC pain reliever medication.

Deep TMS utilizes electromagnetic fields to safely and effectively regulate the neural activity of brain structures associated with the targeted mental health condition. During a Deep TMS session, a cushioned helmet with patented H-Coil technology is used to send electromagnetic fields into deeper brain structures, resulting in improved modulation and treatment outcomes.

This advanced targeting allows Deep TMS to reach areas that traditional TMS often misses, providing greater treatment efficacy and helping patients experience a better quality of life.

Response to treatment varies for each patient – changes are anticipated within 2-4 weeks, but not all patients will experience a change in mood. While improvement may begin as early as 2 weeks, a full course of treatment is recommended to improve the odds for long-lasting improvement following a course of TMS. If treatment is found to be ineffective, your care team will work with you to consider next steps.

Deep TMS is a non-invasive treatment, and in most cases, has minimal and temporary side effects. The most common side effect is a local and passing headache at the treatment site, which usually subsides after the first few treatment sessions. Over-the-counter medication can be used to alleviate this.

Less frequent side effects include muscle twitching, jaw pain, or scalp sensations, but these typically diminish after adjustments to the helmet's position. Unlike medications or electroconvulsive therapy, Deep TMS does not lead to severe side effects such as nausea or memory loss.

This procedure is covered by most, but not all insurance companies. Please contact your insurance carrier for more information.
