Skin cancer surgery
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in U.S. adults, with 1 in 5 Americans developing skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. Over the past three decades, more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined.
Melanoma surgery
Melanoma is the least common but most deadly form of skin cancer. A melanoma usually looks like a brown or black mole, though some are red, tan, pink or white. Full body skin exams are helpful in detecting melanoma early, when it is most treatable.
Our surgical oncologists in Naperville and Elmhurst specialize in melanoma surgical procedures, including:
- Wide excision
- Sentinel node biopsy
- Lymph node dissection
- Metastasectomy
Since melanoma is by far the deadliest form of skin cancer, early detection is essential. In order to catch melanoma at an early stage, pay attention to signs of skin cancer and visit your dermatologist regularly for skin cancer screenings.

Non-melanoma skin cancer surgery
The vast majority of skins cancers are non-melanoma. About 90 percent of non-melanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.
Most non-melanoma skin cancers have a low likelihood of spreading and are highly treatable with surgery. These cancers may include:
- Basal cell carcinoma – the most common form of skin cancer
- Squamous cell carcinoma - the second most common form of skin cancer
Our Chicagoland surgical oncologists specialize in non-melanoma skin cancer surgeries, including:
- Simple excision
- Wide excision
Our surgical oncologists are skilled in surgical procedures for all types of skin cancer. We will review your surgical options in clear terms so you know exactly what to expect.
