Inpatient pediatrics moving to Edward Hospital

July 25, 2019

At Edward-Elmhurst Health, your child’s health is our top priority.

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue our license for the six-bed pediatric inpatient unit at Elmhurst Hospital. While we are in the process of seeking regulatory approval, we will manage our pediatric patients who require inpatient admission by transferring them to Edward Hospital or another hospital to ensure quality and safe patient care.

It is our commitment to continue to serve children in our community through the health system’s pediatric service line — offering a full continuum of services for infants through teens.

Consolidating inpatient care for children aged 0 to 11 at Edward Hospital, where there is a pediatric intensive care unit and a Ronald McDonald Family Center, will allow us to ensure the highest level of quality for children needing acute care. We will continue to care for pediatric patients aged 12-17 on an adult inpatient unit at Elmhurst Hospital. Specialized kid-friendly emergency care and robust outpatient programs will continue at both Elmhurst and Edward Hospitals.
