School Refusal Program

School-related anxiety can profoundly impact the social, emotional, and educational development of children and adolescents. Effective treatment necessitates collaboration among students, school staff, parents, and mental health professionals.

Common conditions treated

  • Generalized anxiety: involves persistent and excessive worry about multiple different aspects of life that interferes with daily activities.
  • Social anxiety: marked fear or anxiety about one or more social situations in which the individual is exposed to possible scrutiny by others.
  • School anxiety and avoidance: severe emotional distress about attending school.  
  • Phobias: fear that is excessive or unreasonable, cued by the presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation.

  • 8 to 18 (in high school)

Treatment approach and techniques

Our treatment method involves group sessions from Monday to Friday, lasting 3-6 hours each day. Additionally, participants have weekly individual and family sessions. The program aims to teach effective emotional management, reduce anxiety across diverse situations, and enhance daily functioning, ultimately fostering a more meaningful life.

Treatment hours (dependent on your level of care)

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): 6 hours a day, 5 days a week
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): 3 hours a day, 5 days a week
  • Counseling/medication management: By appointment (daytime, nighttime and weekend hours)
